My Fitness + Nutrition Journey
My fitness journey started with Jane Fonda VHS tapes, Get in Shape Girl, and team sports. It was powerful and empowering to learn that I loved movement and how it made me feel.
I started distance running in my late 20s. I stuck to the trails and weightlifting classes at the gym. I craved the rush, the confidence, and mental clarity they both provided. With more than 80 races under my belt, I fully understand the power of committing to a goal and achieving it.
I discovered a love of yoga, and added weekly classes to my routine. When I was pregnant, I ran through 29 weeks, until my body told me to stop. I shifted to prenatal yoga because that’s what I craved for body and mind.
I returned to running and completed another marathon. While training for my 10th marathon, injuries popped up due to diastasis recti, muscle imbalances, and improper form. I required weekly physical therapy sessions to get to the finish line. Even though I finished strong, I was burned out.
I rediscovered my love of working out at home with fitness videos. Physical therapy and an online program helped me heal and get stronger than I’d ever been. I also learned how to nourish and fuel my body.
I’ve learned how to own my physical and mental well-being. Instead of mindlessly scrolling the news, I look to podcasts, books, and articles that teach and inspire.
I’d always dreamed of working in health and fitness, and coaching myself opened the door. Now, I get to pursue my dream as a group fitness instructor, personal trainer, and corrective exercise specialist.
